Racing for the Trail

Welcome to Racing for the Trail (RFT), a fund-raiser for the Town Lake Trail Foundation (TLTF) benefiting the Town Lake Trail.

Every year there are hundreds of miles raced on the streets of Austin. Each of those races represents countless miles spent training, most of which are logged on the Town Lake Trail. We set out to find a way to bring the two together for the benefit of the Trail.
Austin is a fit city with a growing population. Trail traffic is increasingly putting a strain on surface material and facilities, many of which are 25+ years old.

Racing for the Trail. RFT is a program that combines a love for the trail with the desire to compete in local races….effectively turning your race miles into cash for the Trail!

Sign up to be a Racing for the Trail racer. Recruit donors who pledge per race mile over the course of the program year (March 1, 2005 – February 28, 2006). RACE! We take care of the rest.
Because of the costs involved we ask that only racers who are confident they can raise a minimum of $250 in pledges sign up. If you'd like to race for the trail but don't want to recruit donors....you can sponsor yourself!

*Completing the sign-up process does not guarantee participation. Participation is at the discretion of the program coordinator.

After signing up, racers receive a fulfillment kit that includes; a special TLTF branded ChampionChip (if you don’t own one), a synthetic racing shirt, donor cards, and program material.
Racers will have a private racer page on our web site. This page is where your race data is stored. Your donors, and their pledge level, are also listed here for tracking purposes. To access this page you’ll need your chip number and the password you used when you signed up.

The cornerstone of our program is Run-FAR’s ChampionChip. This chip records your race data. We are provided a data file after each event that is uploaded to your private racer page. This high level of automation makes it possible for our volunteer organization to keep costs down and provide a maximum benefit to the trail. We anticipate that 100% of funds raised will go directly to Trail improvements!
